Applications open for those hoping to volunteer at LA28 Olympic Games

LOS ANGELES (NBC, KYMA) - The LA28 Olympic Games is happening less than two years from now, but there is a way for people who want to volunteer at the games.

Volunteer applications are open if anyone wants to be a part of the third-ever games in Los Angeles (L.A.).

60,000 people will be needed to make up the volunteer group for the games, with track and field legend Carl Lewis acting as the ambassador for the LA28 volunteers.

He talked Tuesday about what the 1984 games in L.A. meant to him.

"I still get emotional with that moment because of all the Olympic moments just that victory lap there where the entire stadium stopped. I still feel it. It's interesting how you're able to bring that moment together you know we meet again. And it is like that because if you're part of that moment you don't forget it. It's like that old song you remember and never forget when it comes on it takes you to that moment."

Olympic volunteers will serve in eight categories, which includes communications, driving, medical and technology.

The LA28 Olympic Games kicks off July 14, 2028, and it will air on NBC (channel 11) and Peacock.
