Beer me! Seth Beer’s walk-off dinger chugs D-Backs to opening day win
On National Beer Day, the Diamondbacks Seth Beer sinks Padres on Opening Day
PHOENIX, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - Padres starting pitcher Yu Darvish tossed six no hit innings while walking four and striking out three. Darvish was yanked in the season opener after hurling a total of 92 pitches.
With Darvish out of the game, the Diamondbacks led off the home half of the seventh inning with a single by Pavin Smith. Smith would be wiped off the base paths on a double play ball and followed by Seth Beer who singled. For Beer he was just heating up and it is also National Beer Day.
The Padres scored a run in the third and another in the fourth and took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth at Chase Field on Thursday night. In the bottom of the ninth, the Padres bullpen would fail them. Rookie Robert Suarez was called on to start the ninth and began by walking Christian Walker. That was followed by another walk to Pavin Smith. Carson Kelly was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Suarez was replaced by Craig Stammen who unleashed a wild pitch which allowed Walker to score from third. Arizona now trailed 2-1 with Seth Beer coming to the plate.
