Holtville edges Lincoln 33-32 to advance in Division III playoffs

HOLTVILLE, Calif. (KYMA) - Holtville survived a late rally from Lincoln to earn a 33-32 victory in the first round of the Division III playoffs.

The Vikings faced a tough test from the Hornets, who traveled from San Diego and had one final opportunity to take the lead.

Lincoln moved the ball downfield with a short pass to a receiver who fought to keep her flag from being pulled, gaining additional yards as the Hornets continued their drive.

Holtville responded defensively as Emma Britschgi brought down Lincoln’s quarterback for a crucial sack. The Hornets later connected on a double pass for a big gain, setting up a tense finish.

Facing fourth-and-long far from the goal line, Lincoln appeared ready to attempt another double pass. Instead, the receiver took off running, but Angie Beltran pulled her flag to stop the play and preserve the Vikings’ lead.

Holtville held on for the 33-32 win and will face top-seeded Patrick Henry in the next round.
