Tracking dangerous heat making a return to the Desert Southwest

Extreme heat is moving back into the Desert Southwest this week. I am issuing a Weather Authority First Alert Action Day for the next several days ahead due to the hot and dangerous temperatures that will be taking over.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Today was another seasonable day with not as humid conditions.

Heading into the evening it will be calm and warm, so if you are heading to the voting centers prepare for warm weather. Voting ends at 7 p.m., so get your ballots in.

A ridge of high pressure will be building back into the Desert Southwest, bringing a long heatwave that will last for the next several days.

An Extreme Heat Warning is already issued for extreme heat and major heat risks across the Desert Southwest. This is issued 10 a.m. Wednesday until 8 p.m. Monday.

Highs will be between 108-116 degrees and lows in the low between 86-93 degrees.

Tracking higher moisture that will creep back into the region later this week.

This will raise our humidity again and bring a slight chance of scattered to isolated showers and thunderstorms to the Desert Southwest Thursday and Friday.

Temperatures are heating up! Tracking a significant warm-up as highs will climb to the one-teens this week and even through the weekend. We are in for a long stretch of extreme heat for the next several days.

I issued Weather Authority First Alert Action Days for the Desert Southwest starting Wednesday through next Monday for the hotter temperatures. With the added humidity later this week, it will make it feel even hotter. Remember to practice heat safety to prevent heat-related illnesses.
