Weather Authority/ KYMA

A ridge of high pressure is starting to shift more east, but still keeping our temperatures in the low 100s and bringing more record heat. I am tracking cooler and changes ahead.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA-TV)- DROUGHT UPDATE! At the start of the year, the majority and pretty much all of the Desert Southwest weren't experiencing any drought conditions. Now, a 100% of Yuma and La Paz counties are seeing dry drought conditions and 20.38% is having moderate condition.

As for Imperial County, only 39% of the county is seeing dry conditions.

A ridge of high pressure is hanging around keeping our temperatures well-above-average and in record territory through Saturday. More of that extreme heat is starting to favor more off toward the east.

So far, March has been a pretty hot month, and we have been having multiple days where we have been beating daily record highs. Today is looking to be another record-breaking day.

Take a look at our high temperatures and records that were recorded so far for the month.

This current ridge is going to continue to work its way off toward the east, which will finally bring us some changes and relief on the way. But we will remain warm with record heat through the start of the weekend before those changes move in.

Triple-digit and record highs will persist at least through Saturday,. Tracking increasing clouds and breezier conditions by the weekend, with cooler temperatures ahead.

Next week, we are looking to drop into the low and mid 80s, which is seasonable for this time of year. And next week is the Yuma County Fair, and we will at least have more pleasant temperatures to spend some time outdoors.

LOOKING AHEAD: We have a weather pattern change that is expected to arrive next week and it will finally bring us cooler temperatures and maybe even some rain. There are a lot of uncertainties, but there are possibilities for showers and cooler temperatures. Stay tuned for more details and updates.
