Tracking drier and nice temperatures through the weekend

Tracking drier weather through the weekend, with an additional chance for showers being possible again next week.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - We had some light showers for New Year's Eve and into New Year's Day, which brought measurable rain for some areas in both Yuma and Imperial Counties.

Higher amounts were recorded in Imperial County, where some areas received a tenth of an inch or more while Yuma County accumulated very small amounts.

DROUGHT UPDATE: With all the wet weather received these last few months, it has really brought huge and significant improvements to our drought conditions.

All of Imperial County and a chunk of Yuma County aren't displaying any drought conditions. However, still 79.04% of Yuma County is under dry conditions.

As of this week, 7.21% of Yuma County is also under moderate drought, when last week it was reading 19.96%, which is a 12.75% difference from last week for the moderate category.

Happy New Year! It's finally 2026! For the first evening of the year, we will have light winds, a few clouds, and chilly temperatures.

If you are still celebrating tonight, make sure to dress warm.

We will also have drier weather expected through the weekend, with more chances for showers again next week.

Tracking nice and pleasant afternoons and cold overnights for the next several days. We will still see some clouds, but the chance for showers will be possible early next week.

Don't forget the first full moon of 2026 (The Wolf Moon) will appear in our skies this Saturday around 3:02 a.m. MST.
