Amusement ride designed to mimic the Titanic’s sinking receives backlash

HERTSFORDSHIRE, England (CBS, KYMA) - An amusement ride designed to mimic one of history's most famous shipwrecks is causing a stir overseas.

The Titanic-themed slide at a farm in England is getting backlash from some people who said it makes light of the 1912 disaster that killed some 1,500 people.

The attraction recreated the sinking by lifting one end of a replica ship and sending riders sliding down.

"We really didn't want to be insensitive at all, and we sort of slightly panicked and said right we'll change the name," said Will Campbell-Gray with Graveley Fruit Farm. "We'll change it from Titanic, and we'll change it to The Big Tipper. And the backlash we got for doing that was far greater than the backlash we received initially."

Owners said they'll keep the Titanic name and plan to add educational signs to teach visitors more about the ocean liner's history.

For now, the slide is proving to be a big hit with kids.
