UPS announce deal to install air conditioners in trucks

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - For the first time, air conditioning will be installed in UPS' iconic brown delivery trucks.

Labor leaders at UPS and other major retail and logistics companies have complained for years that working in hot weather can become unbearable and even dangerous.

The tentative deal announced on Tuesday between the package carrier and the Teamsters Union would require air conditioning systems, new heat shields, and additional fans in UPS' fleet of vehicles.

The agreement also comes as voting is underway on whether to authorize a strike if negotiations over a new contract fail before the current contract expires on August 1.

The results of the vote are set to be announced on Friday.
