City of El Centro to extend Imperial Avenue
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The City of El Centro has finally started a long-awaited project since the 70, that project is expanding Imperial Avenue to the south side of the city.
The historic groundbreaking took place Tuesday morning in El Centro.
At a cost of $5.5 million dollars, these initial construction phases add to the $7.7 million already invested in the project for right-of-way acquisition, utility relocations, and design services for a total of $13.2 million dollars of regional investment to date.
The mayor said the city is growing and adding this expansion would benefit the city.
“It’s really important as we take a look at making sure that one there is connectivity amongst the neighborhood. Two we want to make sure that we have access for emergency service and third we also want to make sure commuting amongst individuals in our city that is accessible and easy to be able to transport and to access services," stated Mayor Martha Cardenas Singh.
Phases one and two have already started and it expected to be complete by the end of this year.
