During a press conference Sunday evening, de Barrena-Sarobe said investigators believe there were multiple shooters at the event.

"We are also going to reiterate what we said last night, right, that we're operating under the belief that the shooter, or shooters, in this case, did not come here with a specific disease cause a mass casualty event. We believe they would have operated differently, and so we're treating this as a shooting that broke out in the middle of homecoming weekend."
