Golden Globe Awards to have new owners
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - After years of controversy, the Golden Globe Awards are getting new owners.
Dick Clark Productions and asset management company Eldridge are combining to buy the Globes and its assets from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).
That organization has been criticized over the years for numerous issues, including voting tactics and the demographics of its membership.
The HFPA will be dissolved going forward, but under the Globes' new ownership, it's not yet clear who will be voting for the awards, which honor the year's best in TV and film.
NBC has been the longtime broadcast home for the Golden Globes, but it currently has no network locked in to air its next edition, which is currently scheduled for Sunday, January 7, 2024.
