Lori Vallow Daybell’s second trial in Arizona delayed
MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - The latest trial of convicted killer Lori Vallow Daybell has been delayed in Arizona after she told a judge Monday she was too sick to continue with jury selection.
Vallow Daybell, the so-called "Doomsday Mom," was too sick to pick a jury in what should be her third trial in under three years.
She was first convicted in Idaho in 2023 for killing her children, Tylee and JJ, and her role in the death of her husband's first wife.
In April of this year, she was convicted in Arizona for conspiring to kill her former husband, and for this trial, she's accused of conspiring to kill her niece's ex-husband, who wasn't injured in a shooting attempt.
Vallow Daybell is representing herself and she's pleaded not guilty.
An NBC affiliate in Phoenix saw Vallow Daybell rolled into the courtroom by a deputy as she slumped in an MCSO wheelchair, with her head in her hand.
Jury selection, which has been delayed twice now, was bumped again to Wednesday, despite Judge Justin Beresky's efforts to keep the trial dates on track.
Vallow Daybell said she has the right to represent herself, and that she needed to be there, rather than having her advisory team do it instead.
Her ailments come in the wake of her unsuccessful efforts to get Judge Beresky off the case, with the delays concerning to the prosecutor as well.
But at the end of the day, Vallow Daybell gets what she wants: A return to her jail cell to rest.
