Arizona is the fourth state with the most pool drownings
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - According to a recent study, there were 131 drownings happened between 2019 to 2022, which is the second leading cause of death, while birth defects are first for children under the age of five.
34 percent of pool drownings involved children under the age of 14.
A husband and wife have decided to come together and create water safety classes for children of all ages and even offer private lessons for neurotypical and neurodivergent children.
This is the first year they offer these classes.
Co-Owner Laiza Smith said that they are the first to offer classes for children with disabilities and said that it is important to be inclusive to everyone.
Children with Autism are 160 times more likely to drown.
