Quechan Indian Tribe advises community to prepare a basic emergency supply kit for safety

The Quechan Tribal Council and Emergency Management Team advises community to prepare for Hurricane Kay

(KYMA, KECY) - The Quechan Tribal Council and Emergency Management Team advises Quechan tribal members and the community to prepare for possible flooding, power outages due to the possible outcomes of Hurricane Kay and to prepare an emergency supply kit.

The Quechan Indian Tribe will be posting information on their website, their mobile emergency text app RedFlag and through their Housing Department resources.

To prepare an emergency supply kit, the Quechan Indian Tribe says to have a list of items based off your own personal needs:

  • Masks (for everyone ages 2 and above), soap, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes to disinfect surfaces
  • Prescription medications
  • Non-prescription medications such as pain relievers etc.
  • Prescription eyeglasses and contact lens solution
  • Infant formula, bottles, diapers, wipes and diaper rash cream
  • Pet food and extra water for your pet
  • Cash or traveler's checks
  • Important family documents such as copies of insurance policies, identification and bank account records saved electronically or in a waterproof, portable container
  • Sleeping bag or warm blanket for each person
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Feminine supplies and personal hygiene items
  • Mess kits, paper cups, plates, paper towels and plastic utensils
  • Paper and pencil
  • Books, games, puzzles or other activities for children
  • Flashlights and batteries
  • First Aid Kit
  • Portable cell phone charger
  • Dried foods and snacks
  • Canned meats, vegetables and fruits
  • Extra water and electrolyte packets
  • A list of Emergency Contacts
  • Utility knife/tools
  • Waterproof tarps
  • Backpack/travel bags with change of clothing and shoes
  • Medication travel containers or coolers

The Quechan Community Center is open as a Cooling Center from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

If there are power outages lasting longer than four hours, the Quechan Paradise Event Center will be open as a temporary shelter.
