Petitioning in Curley’s honor
YHS HOF requesting new stadium name after Culp
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma High School Hall of Fame is petitioning to honor the memory and legacy of Curley Culp.
The Criminals Hall of Fame committee will present a request to the Yuma Union High School District Governing Board this week to formally name Yuma High's football stadium after Curley Culp.
The proposed stadium's name will not replace the long standing name Doan Field.
It will only add onto it as the name "Curley Culp Stadium at Doan Field."
The committee encourages the Yuma Community to come to the board meeting to support the move.
"We encourage anybody who's interested to come and support us by just attending there and listening to the presentation made to the school board. Without the school board's approval, nothing's going to happen. This is an important step in getting things done. And then after this if the school board does approve it, we will start our fundraising."
Tim Painter - YHS HOF Committee member
The committee has a petition being signed to support this proposal and also has approached the City of Yuma about commemorating Curley Culp's memory.
The proposal is scheduled to be made to the District Governing Board meeting this Wednesday, June 8th at 5:15 pm.
