Biden to raise minimum wage for federal contractors

(KYMA, KECY/CNN) - President Joe Biden is expected to boost the minimum wage for federal contractors on Tuesday after a simple majority passed on the order.

This will raise the minimum wage of hundreds of thousands of contract workers from $10.95 to $15 an hour. That minimum wage will go up every year based on inflation.

The move comes after the Senate killed Biden's attempt to do the same for all federal workers in February. He had written the hike into his $1.9 trillion Covid relief bill, but the Senate Parliament squashed it because it did not meet the guidelines for the Chamber's budget reconciliation process.

That's the process that allowed the bill to pass with a simple majority instead of the 60 votes typically needed for certain budgetary measures.

Biden's new executive order will take effect next year, which impacts workers from cleaning professionals, nursing assistants, food service workers, and construction workers.
