Ben the Service Dog gets caught stealing toys

Police identify pilferer in their own ranks

FRANKLIN, Mass. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY) - Police in Massachusetts catch an unusual larceny on camera. And it happened right in their own police station.

Officers at the Franklin Police Department noticed toys collected for their Santa Foundation were disappearing. They couldn't figure out who would steal toys from a police station at Christmas time.

It turn out the thief was actually man's best friend, an adorable service dog named Ben. The golden retriever had been hoarding toys for quite some time.

A video posted on the department's Facebook page provided the key piece of evidence against the canine criminal. Officers say the slobber on the toys also helped close the case.

They say the crime spree taught them two lessons valuable lessons.First, keep the door closed. Second, keep the toys off the ground. That should prevent Ben from having to spend any time behind bars, or in his kennel.
