Police looking for suspects in smash-and-grab burglary
Calexico police are asking the public if they can identify two men caught on video running towards the border. They’re suspects in a recent smash-and-grab burglary.
Officer Anthony Aguirre said, “Two suspects breaking a window and grabbing jewelry that was held for sale and running southbound to Mexico.”
It happened in downtown in broad daylight, around 3:00 p.m.
“Business was in session and employees and people shopping were inside the store during this incident,” Aguirre said.
Police said people in the store were shocked but no one was injured.
“They said a loud noise coming from the front entrance display area where they noticed two male subjects wearing bandanas, unknown if they’re gang members or not, break the window, smash the window with either a hand or an object, grab jewelry held for sale and ran,” Aguirre said.
It happened so fast they didn’t get a good look at the suspects. The two men allegedly reached through the broken glass, grabbed thousands of dollars of jewelry and fled.
” The video footage didn’t capture exactly how they broke it. It was really hard to see if their hand was open or in a fist form of if they used any type of object, ” Aguirre said.
Police are hoping the public can identify them.
“They’re both very slim and tall, one seemed possibly 6’1″ or 6′. The other one maybe 5’10 ” , 5’9 ” . Light complected, Hispanic male adults, ” Aguirre said.
