Admitted gang member suspected of entering US illegally arrested
A man who authorities said admitted to being a member of the Border Brothers gang was arrested after allegedly entering the United States illegally Monday night.
Customs and Border Protection said agents spotted a man walking north from the border about 10 miles east of the Port of San Luis. Authorities discovered he had dug under an older section of the border fence in the same area used by the group of 376 Central Americans the week before.
Agents arrested the man, a Mexican national, and transported him to the Yuma Border Patrol Station. A record check revealed the man was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in 1984 in Fresno, Calif. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison and also admitted he was a Border Brothers street gang member.
The man will be prosecuted for re-entry after deportation.
