Clinicas de Salud del Pueblo now offering hi-tech services in Riverside County

The non-profit community health center, Clinicas de Salud del Pueblo, is now offering hi-tech health services in communities of rural Riverside County.

A digital retinal camera was installed at their Mecca Clinic Friday to help screen patients for eye disease linked with diabetes and other conditions.

The digital images taken by the retinal camera will be sent to optometrists at the University of California, Berkeley via a secure web portal. Results will be returned to physicians at the Mecca Clinic within 48 hours where early signs of eye diseases linked to diabetes can be identified.

The addition of the retinal screening camera comes through a partnership between Clinicas and Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP), a not-for-profit Medi-Cal and Medicare health plan serving over 1.2 million members throughout Inland Empire.

“IEHP is committed to supporting technology that improves access to care for our members,” said Dr. Priya Batra, Medical Director for IEHP Family and Community Health. “In more rural areas like Mecca, the use of a digital retinal screening camera means our members can receive an important health screening in their own home community.”

Coachella welcomed a new clinic facility at the beginning of 2018 and Hemet Clinic expanded and remodeled to improve services for patients in their community.

All clinic sites in Riverside including Blythe clinic now have state-of-the-art telemedicine equipment, allowing patients to virtually visit with specialists such as psychiatrists.

“Our patients look to Clinicas to provide them with a full-scope of services, including helping them when they need to see a specialist. Telehealth services, such as the new retinal camera in Mecca, and new telemedicine equipment in all of our Riverside County, means patients can access more health services than ever,” according to Alberto Quihuis, Telehealth Manager for Clinicas.
