64 National Guard troops will be assigned to the Yuma Sector, according to Cpt. Aaron C. Thacker with the Arizona National Guard.

National Guardsmen are expected to be working on intelligence analysis supervising camera systems, aerial surveillance, and infrastructural maintenance said Meredith Mingledorff with U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Tucson.

“National Guard is on operation guardian support. They are in support roles so that means they’re on non-law enforcement missions and are supportive of law enforcement missions,” said Mingledorff. “Guardsmen will never effect law enforcement and make arrests. That is the role of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.”
