Yuma Police Dept. to host open community forum, still accepting applications
The Yuma Police Department is still accepting applications for its Procedural Justice Workshop. YPD says this workshop will provide an opportunity for local law enforcement and local community members to come together and interact while learning about the application of Procedural Justice. Skilled facilitators will work to create a mutual learning environment that will embrace open discussion between law enforcement and residents, building the foundation for mutual trust.
Procedural Justice for Communities: A Dialogue to Change is sponsored in partnership with the Center for Public Safety and Justice (CPSJ) at the University of Illinois in Chicago, the ultimate goal of this workshop is to lay the foundation for building mutual trust, enhancing the community’s perspective of police legitimacy and lessening the “us vs. them” attitude that can exist between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
Developed by CPSJ in collaboration with the nation’s key researchers and law enforcement executives, the Dialogue to Change workshop and the Procedural Justice classes embody the four key pillars of Procedural Justice- 1) fairness in processes, 2) transparency in actions, 3) opportunity for voice, and 4) impartiality in decision making – providing practical steps for application in the ongoing, dynamic relationship between law enforcement and the community.
The workshop will be held at the Yuma Police Department, 1500 S. 1st Avenue, on Wednesday, June 28th, 2017 from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. in Community Rooms A and B. There is no cost to attend, however, space is limited. Applications for the workshop can be picked up at the Yuma Police Department Records’ window or you can request an electronic copy via email. The deadline for application submission is until 23 participants fill the class.
