Two people arrested in connetion to Imperial shooting
We are learning more about a shooting that happened Tuesday in the early morning hours in the city of Imperial.
Two suspects have been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.
We talked to people in the community of Imperial today to see how they feel in what has been called the safest city in California.
“I feel pretty safe overall but that doesn’t mean things don’t happen, my house was broken into about two years ago,” said Doug Gardner, Imperial Resident
“The reporting party advised that he heard some gunshots earlier in the evening around midnight, looked outside and didn’t think anything of it, so went back to bed. After waking up the next morning he went outside and saw that his vehicle was shot,” said Mario Luna, Deputy Chief with the Imperial Police Department.
At around 9:30 Tuesday morning officers established a crime scene on the 500 block of Sunflower Way.
“When they arrived they located several entries where a bullet had went into the vehicle of the owner, the reporting party’s vehicle in the driveway. They also located some spent shell casings that were located in the street,” explained Luna.
The two suspects were later arrested after a traffic stop by imperial police. Twenty-three year old Amy Ulibarri and 24 year old Skye Acosta were arrested for shooting into an occupied home, shooting at and unoccupied vehicle, criminal threats, conspiracy, aiding and abetting.
Ulibarri was arrested but was later released from police custody, both are facing pending charges with the district attorney’s office.
“Although it’s unfortunate that an incident like this occurs within the city of imperial, the great police work of the officers and investigators of the imperial police department were able to solve this crime in the same day that it was reported to law enforcement,” added Luna.
The motive to why the shooting took place to begin with is still under investigation. The imperial police department is asking anyone with information to come forward. You can reach them at 760-355-4329.
