Arizona Public Service prepares for Monsoon season

Monsoon Season officially starts tomorrow in the desert southwest and with high temperatures on the way, Arizona Public Service is making sure the power is secured for the summer. From June to September, Arizona’s annual monsoon season brings power outages and road closures due to extreme weather conditions like rain, strong winds, and stormy weather. In Yuma, APS Southwest Division Manager Jeff Spohn, says the team has been working all year long to keep the grid at a healthy state and by making improvements with newer technology. “So the maintenance, we performed it to last more the entire season. It’s more of a long term approach of keeping the grid at a healthy state. We change out the transformers that are older and put new ones on to handle the load and the heat relative to the weather conditions we see in the southwest during the summer.” During monsoon season power outages are common in our area, but being prepared in any situation could keep you safe for the summer. Spohn saids,”I would encourage folks if you’re out of power go to APS.com to report the outage.” In any case of a power outage this season, APS reminds their customers to contact them and to have an emergency prepare kit. A kit that includes flashlights with batteries, water, and canned foods to last you until the power is fixed and turned back on. For more tips on safety during this season click here.
