Man arrested after allegedly tasing his mother and sister

A man was arrested after he allegedly tased his mother and sister and barricaded himself when police showed up.

Ricardo Herrera, 29, is suspected of striking his mother and sister after he became upset over financial issues.

Police officers say they were called out to the 700 block of El Centro Avenue at about 8:50 p.m. on Sunday to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon.

Officers say they found Herrera outside the home with the stun gun yelling for officers to shoot him and refused to obey orders from police. Eventually Herrera was able to slip through the perimeter set by police and avoid arrest.

Later, at about 11:30 p.m., an officer checking the home heard the sound of someone using the stun gun. Herrera walked out of the house but refused to drop the stun gun or obey orders and walked back into the house. Officers set perimeter with the help of Imperial County Sheriff’s Office Deputies.

Herrera allegedly continued to disobey orders for the next hour, despite officers announcing they would use their K-9 officer.

Officers went inside the home looking for Herrera and found him inside the restroom holding the stun gun. They were able to force their way into the restroom and sent their K-9 in.

Herrera struggled with the K-9 while continuing to refuse to surrender, according to police.

Officers were able to take Herrera into custody.

Herrera was treated by paramedics on scene for dog bites and taken to the hospital.

He was later booked into the Imperial County Jail on felony assault and obstructing law enforcement charges.
