Law enforcement detail leads to 35 arrests

A large scale enforcement detail was conducted in El Centro Thursday.

The El Centro Police Department along with multiple law enforcement agencies made a total of 35 arrests.

Over the span of eight hours around 50 officers and agents took to the streets of El Centro to fight crime.

Officers contacted 79 individuals and arrested and additional 35.

“Actually, the numbers are probably a little low, I think they should be a little bit higher but maybe because these are parolees or bench warrants,” said Rick Ram, El Centro Resident.

Ten agencies including the El Centro Police Department, Homeland Security and The United States Marshall Service focused on the downtown area.

The charges of the 35 arrestees range from drug violations, to arrest warrants, to violations of probation. The community had mixed reactions on feeling safe.

“They’re nice people, they’re polite, they respect. When you respect them they respect you back double, that’s how it works,” said John Yousif, owner of Euclid Market.

“It doesn’t make our streets any safer, because there are still people out there wanting to make crime,” added Ram

The El Centro Police Department says these arrests should serve a strong warning for those are considering committing a crime in their city.
