Youth Spring Forum inspires local students to reach success

“All children are capable of success, no exceptions.” That’s the motto behind non-profit ‘Kids at Hope’ and the Yuma County Juvenile Court.

The two organizations partnered together Tuesday for this year’s Youth Spring Forum where one thousand local students filled the building, eager to hear the words of David Diaz and Danny Diaz–two brothers from McFarland, California.

David and Danny are just two of the inspirations behind Disney movie, McFarland, USA. The brothers describe McFarland as an agricultural city very similar to Yuma and say that they grew up helping their parents who were field workers. In the movie and in their actual lives they became cross country stars through the encouragement of a coach and are now college-educated professionals. The brothers say they still identify as field workers and are proud of their humble beginnings.

Kids at Hope is a Phoenix-based organization with a mission to inspire, empower and transform schools, and other organizations serving youth. This is the third year the Yuma County Juvenile Justice Center hosts a forum with Kids at Hope and Tuesday’s event was the first time the forum was opened up to local school districts.
