NASA space capsule parachute drop

The U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground will host a test of the parachutes that are meant to bring NASA’s Orion space capsule safely back to earth. Orion is NASA’s next generation spacecraft and it is being designed to take humans to mars. It is the most advanced spacecraft ever designed. During the test, an engineering model of the Orion spacecraft will be dropped from a aircraft flying at an altitude of 25,000 feet. The model was stored today in a C-130 aircraft at YPG. The test will take place Wednesday morning, March 8th. The test will simulate what astronauts might experience if they have to abort a mission after liftoff.
