California gubernatorial candidate casts his ballot

SAN JOSE, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan cast his vote in the state's governor's race, where he is a candidate in a crowded field.

Mayor Mahan voted Saturday, the first day of in-person early voting for the June primary.

Mahan is trailing in the polls at around sixth overall, in a race where the two top vote-getters, no matter their party affiliation, go on to face one another in November.

Mahan is behind fellow Democrat Javier Becerra and Republican Steve Hilton, a former Fox News commentator, who are showing as tied in recent polling, as well as billionaire Tom Steyer who is trailing behind the top two, but still in double-digits.

Mahan voted with his family at his side and says he is proud of the campaign he has run and what he has to offer.

"This campaign is all about making California work for working families, ensuring that our government is as accountable as we are for delivering results in people's lives. Safer neighborhoods, better schools, more affordable housing, an end to unsheltered homelessness," Mahan shared.
