President Trump welcomes King Charles and Queen Camilla

WASHINGTON (KYMA, NBC/CBS) - President Donald Trump is welcoming King Charles and Queen Camilla to the White House Monday.

According to NBC News, this is part of the British royals' four-day state trip to mark the 250th anniversary of America's independence.

The British royals arrived at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland earlier in the day, where they were greeted with an arrival ceremony.

During the visit, President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump and the King and Queen of England will meet for tea, and the president and first lady will also participate in a garden party at the British Embassy later in the day.

The visit comes two days after the White House Correspondents' Dinner shooting, which the suspect, 31-year-old Cole Allen, was arrested.

During an interview with Margaret Brennan on CBS' Face the Nation Sunday, Sir Christian Turner, British ambassador to the U.S., was asked if it was safe for Charles and Camilla to speak to Congress and visit the White House in light of the shooting, and Turner said:

"We respond to that professional advice. I'm currently planning to be welcoming their Majesties tomorrow. But of course, our team has been in touch way through the night, and we'll be through the day to see whether the events of last night have any change in our operational planning. And I'm very confident that their Majesties will have the very best security throughout the visit."
