NBC News poll shows how Americans feel about President Trump’s second term

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - A new NBC News Decision Desk poll is giving us a clearer picture of how Americans feel about President Donald Trump in his second term.

When asked about his overall job performance, the country is still split. 45% approve, while 55% disapprove and most of those feel strongly about it.

When asked how they feel about the Trump administration's actions so far in this second term, emotions run high. 23% say they're furious, 20% are dissatisfied, and only 10% say they're thrilled. The rest fall somewhere in between from happy to neutral to dissatisfied.

On immigration and border security, Americans are evenly divided. 51% approve of how President Trump is handling the issue, while 49% disapprove.

But when it comes to inflation and the cost of living, Trump faces more criticism. 45% strongly disapprove of his handling of the issue, with only 39% expressing approval.

When asked what matters most to them right now, 27% of Americans said the economy, followed closely by threats to democracy at 23%. Health care, crime, and immigration also ranked high.

On issues related to colleges and universities, 43% approve of Trump's approach, while 56% disapprove, including 42% who strongly disapprove.

When it comes to institutions like Harvard, 44% of Americans believe colleges are helping the country, while 24% say they're hurting it.

When voters were asked about their own financial situation compared to a year ago, 34% say they're worse off, 45% say things are about the same, and only 21% feel better off.

Lastly, as Congress debates the next budget bill, a majority of Americans 51% say maintaining spending on programs like Medicaid is their top priority. 28% favor expanding tax cuts, and 21% want to reduce the national debt.
