SAN LUIS, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The United States General Services Administration (GSA) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will co-host a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday.

According to a press release, the project will modernize and expand the San Luis I Land Port of Entry (LPOE) and will help boost jobs, innovation, sustainability and binational ties "while also strengthening national security."

The ceremony will mark the start of a major land port construction project, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, to break for the first time, the GSA said.

In addition, the project will incorporate sustainable materials and technologies through funding from the Inflation Reduction Act.

Furthermore, several Arizona officials are expected to attend, including:

  • Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs
  • U.S. Senator Mark Kelly
  • San Luis Mayor Nieves Riedel
  • San Luis Rio Colorado Mayor Santos Gonzales Yescas
  • Consul of Mexico in Yuma, Arizona Dulce Maria Valle Alvarez
  • Consul General - U.S. Consulate in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico Laura Biedebach
  • And more

KYMA will livestream the event on Tuesday, June 27 at 11:00am.
