Minibus crash kills 25 people, including nine children, in northern Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — An Afghan police spokesman says 25 people, including nine children, have died in a minibus accident in the country’s north. The crash happened Wednesday afternoon in Sar-e-Pul province as the passengers were returning from a wedding. The spokesman blamed the minibus driver for the crash, saying his carelessness led to the vehicle plunging into a pit. He did not say if there were any survivors. Traffic accidents are common in Afghanistan, mainly due to poor road conditions and reckless driving. The crash location is in a mountainous area of the province with half-paved roads.
