CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY), Calexico High School students helped the Brown Bag Coalition run a food and clothing drive for families in need.

Thanks to money and food donations from Sun Community Federal Credit Union and Jefferson Elementary School, the Brown Bag Coalition was able to prepare food baskets for eleven families in need.

The people helped are homeless families that have children that attend the Calexico School District.

The food baskets included non-perishable food items. They also received donations of free clothes.

“When they see that they’re getting the food basket and they see the clothes that they’re getting they seem thankful and that’s what it’s all about. We wanted to do something different instead of taking the money and feeding the homeless we already have money for that. We wanted to do something special," said Maribel Padilla, Brown Bag Coalition co-founder.
