Credit Union President sentenced to over two years in prison for embezzlement

More than $2 million embezzled over a few years

PHOENIX (KYMA, KECY) - A 64-year-old woman was recently sentenced to over two years in prison for embezzlement of credit union money.

Susan Irene Romero was a chief executive officer for Winslow Santa Fe Credit Union and embezzled over $2 million after a few years.

A routine audit discovered something wrong in the financial records then Romero later admitted to stealing money with forged signatures and multiple transfers to family members.

Romero pleaded guilty in May 2021 and was also ordered to pay $2,360,000 in restitution.
