Man suspected of stalking, killing homeless people arrested

MGN

NEW YORK (AP) — Police say they've arrested a gunman suspected of stalking homeless people asleep on the streets of New York City and Washington, D.C., killing at least two people and wounding three others.

The Metropolitan Police Department announced early Tuesday on Twitter that law enforcement arrested the man in Washington and he was being interviewed.

Police in the two cities earlier released multiple surveillance photographs, including a closeup clearly showing the man’s face.

Police had urged people who might know him to come forward.

Advocates for the homeless say they're relieved by the arrest but urge officials in both cities to provide more assistance to people without housing.
