Yuma man accused of killing brother denied chance of release, remains on $1 million bond
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - It was a family feud that turned deadly in mid-February when 61-year-old Adolfo Haros-Kempton allegedly killed his own brother by putting him in a chokehold.
Tuesday in Yuma County Superior Court, Haros-Kempton was wheeled into the courtroom where he learned his conditions of release hearing was being vacated.
Now he will remain in custody on a $1 million bond.
It was an emotional scene as a relative of the victim called into the courtroom telephonically. After a few moments, the women started tearing up saying, "I don't know how he could do this to his own brother."
The incident happened when the Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) responded to a domestic violence disturbance on Saturday. Deputies arrived just after 3:30 p.m. to find a man dead in the remote area of West Street near Levee Road.
It's also important to note the suspect's attorney told the judge at his formal arraignment that his client suffers from multiple brain injuries.
Haros-Kempton is charged with second-degree murder and will be back in court next month.
