Lawsuit challenging health care quality for prisoners goes to trial

U.S. (KYMA, KECY) - On November 1, a lawsuit regarding health care quality of more than 27,000 Arizona prisoners will be headed to trial.

The state of Arizona has been hit with over $2.5 million in fines for noncompliance.

Despite the huge Contempt of Court fines, Arizona's prisons have yet to provide the care needed for its prisoners as many had preventable deaths.

Lawyers representing Arizona's prisoners wish for the state to appoint officials to run medical and health services.

The lawsuit has cost the state $20 million with most of it coming from attorney fees.
