Families in need treated to Posada event by Brown Bag Coalition

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY)- An Imperial Valley group is bringing the Christmas cheer to families in need in Calexico.

Earlier Saturday night, the Brown Bag Coalition hosted close to 30 families in need for their 5th annual posada.

Adults received tamales, while children received happy meals donated by Mcdonalds in Calexico and teenagers received pizza.

Maribel Padilla, founder of the Brown Bag Coalition said everyone deserves a gift this holiday season.

"If you're homeless and you're living with somebody else, it hard. And they have very little because they live in a small house with a bunch of people so you have your minimum. And so I think coming here and going home with gifts, going (with) a blanket, you know that's your own. And I think that gives them like a sense of belonging."

The families were referred by local organizations that work with families in need.
