Marine disarms armed robbery suspect in Yuma Foothills: 1 arrested, 2 at large

When deputies contacted the customer, who previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and asked how he was able to take control of the situation, he stated, “The Marine Corp taught me not to [mess] around.”

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - New details on an armed robbery that happened at a Chevron in the Foothills, early Wednesday morning. The Yuma County Sheriff's Office, tells us three suspects walked into the convenience store - one armed with a handgun.

The customer who he walked by, previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps and disarmed him almost immediately and was able to detain him until deputies arrived, according to YCSO. Authorities add the suspect is a juvenile, now facing robbery and aggravated assault charges. 

The other two suspects, remain at large.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) says the Chevron has officially been reopened.

Deputies confirm the area has also been cleared.

According to the YCSO, no victims were injured, but the investigation is ongoing.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) reports an armed robbery took place early Wednesday morning at the Chevron in the 10700 block of S. Fortuna Road.

Deputies say they responded to gas station at about 4:30 a.m.

The YCSO confirms it has blocked off the business, as well as investigators are currently on scene.

Deputies ask that locals please avoid the area.

The Sheriff's Office says it will be release additional details at a later time.
