U.S. workforce significantly older, more diverse

(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - According to recent data, the model American worker could be much different than in year's past.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shared a blog post examining data on the nation's workforce and the information is compared to the workplace back in 1979.

According to the data, the percentage of people aged 65 and older in the workplace has doubled over the last 40 years, while the share of work being done by those 55 to 64-years-old has also gone up.

Economists say the labor force is now more diverse, as well, with the number of non-white workers on the bob currently is double of what it was in 1979.

Women's participation in the workforce has only increased 5% to land at 47%, but economists point out the job losses during the pandemic have disproportionately impacted female workers.
