Memorials emerge honoring Senator John McCain

Memorials emerged around Phoenix honoring Senator John McCain.

McCain’s body was transported to the A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuaries Bethany Chapel on Saturday evening.

Outside of the mortuary is a growing memorial with an honor guard.

“To me personally, I lost another brother. With his passing like our model in our honor guard, we represent those with no face, no voice or presence. And with that being said we honor the memory of those who have served our country,” explained Commander David Carrasco, MIA, POW, KIA Honor Guard.

Senator McCain was a Vietnam veteran and prisoner of war.

Others, who did not always agree with Senator McCain, also showed their appreciation by visiting the mortuary.

“The one time I got to personally meet him. I was really surprised. I went up to talk. I didn’t think I’d be allowed to and I actually told him, I said, ‘Look, I’m just going to be completely honest with you Senator McCain. I actually disagree with you on a lot of politics, but I respect your service and I did not ever put your service down,” said Leonard Clark.

Clark added that McCain responded to him by putting his arm around him and asking him to give him a call.

The growing memorial outside of the mortuary was not the only memorial in Phoenix.

A memorial could be seen outside McCain’s Phoenix office.
