Yuma ministry hosts refugee forum
The Yuma Refugee Ministry hosted a refugee forum for the community on Friday.
Connor Veneski, the Transition Coordinator with the Yuma Refugee Ministry, said the purpose of the forum was to address any misconceptions the public might have about issues pertaining to immigration.
According to Veneski, the program assists asylum-seekers released in the Yuma Sector.
The ministry tells News 11’s Vanessa Dillon, they provide shelter, clothing, and food to families who have been granted humanitarian parole under Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Families are also given the opportunity to seek refuge if they are seen eligible for sponsorship by a relative living in the United States under ICE.
Panel speakers included a Yuma Bishop representing the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Yuma, a Phoenix-based immigration attorney, and an Arizona State University research student.
The forum started at 5:30 p.m., the event was located at 505 South Avenue B, Yuma, AZ 85364.
