The mayor of Kingman speaks out after the portrayal of the city of Kingman on “Who is America.”

Sacha Baron Cohen, best known for his role in Borat, is shown hosting a meeting with residents where they oppose building a mosque and later making comments about African Americans.

Mayor Monica Gates told News 11 that what was shown on the Showtime show does not represent the majority of their community.

She even added there is already a mosque in Kingman.

“We are a warm, welcoming community that embraces diversity,” said Mayor Monica Gates.

Mayor Gates claimed the show was not filmed in her city limits and that she does not recognize any of the residents featured in the series.

“There were people bused to another city and paid $150 per person to participate in a mock focus group,” said Gates.

She claimed that information is verified in the Mohave Valley Daily News.

“There was an article actually written in another city’s newspaper six months ago and that information has been verified of the author of that newspaper,” said Gates.

News 11 has reached out to Showtime for comment but they said the network has no comment.

She said she is speaking out this time because the last time Kingman made headlines was as the home of the Oklahoma City Bomber.

“He was unfortunately portrayed as a Kingman resident and he truly wasn’t and Kingman never took that opportunity to push back as recognizing him as a resident. He does not and never did depict our community and we are not going to make that mistake again,” explained Gates.

Other cities have also fallen victims to the prankster.

One Georgia lawmaker resigned after he fell for what he thought was antiterrorism training.

The lawmaker went as far as pulling his pants down and using the “n-word.”

The show is described as a series that explores diverse people around the country on their website.
