Local man dies in shooting, suspect on the run

Officers at the El Centro Police Department are looking for a suspect wanted for questioning in the death of a local man.

El Centro Police said a man was shot dead Monday night around 10 p.m.in the area of Jackrabbit Drive and Mustard Seed Street.

Commander Alvaro Ramirez said few details of the alleged homicide are known at this time.

“Shots being heard in the area. Our officers immediately responded to the scene and found a male subject that was the victim of gunshot wounds and was deceased on the scene,” Ramirez said.

Neighbors were reluctant to offer any information to the media. They did say that they were shocked and feared for their own safety.

“We were surprised to hear about it. Just to hear that somebody got shot and killed is terrible. Probably going to be more careful. Just keep an eye out for anything that we see that’s suspicious. We have to let the police department know,” Jose Bolanos said.

Police want to locate the suspect quickly and put him behind bars. They are asking the community for any information.

“The description is very vague. The only information that we have is that it was a male subject seen running from the area. If our community has any information, we ask that they immediately call the El Centro Police department and forward that information,” Ramirez said.
