“Sureo” gang member arrested by Border Patrol

Border Patrol agents apprehended a “Sureño” gang member near Calexico Thursday afternoon.

Agents patrolling noticed a man entering the United States illegally at around 3:29 p.m. He was arrested and taken to the El Centro station.

A records check revealed the man had a felony conviction for illegal re-entry into the U.S. and is a registered Sureño gang member. Under the Street Gang Act, the 27-year-old Mexican citizen was sentenced to a four-year prison term.

The man will be prosecuted for re-entry into the United States after being previously removed.

“The continued vigilance of our agents led to the apprehension of this criminal,” said Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David S. Kim. “This dangerous man is off our streets and no longer a danger to the members of our community.”
