Excessive heat reaches record highs

Highest heat yet breaks local records

YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - Summer hasn't officially started yet, but that hasn't stopped the highest heat yet in 2021 to eclipse new daytime high records.

Blythe has reached a new heating record of 119 degrees.

The previous record was 116 degrees set in 2015.

Meanwhile, both El Centro and Imperial have both smashed their previous heat records.

El Centro reached 117 degrees, surpassing the previous record of 114 as the highest daytime high for this date of the year.

Imperial soared up to 119 degrees, topping the 115 degree mark set back in 1971.

We can also count Yuma in on the record breaking party.

The city made it to 116 degrees, edging out the previous record of 115 degrees set 40 years ago.

More heat records are expected to fall on Friday.

All these temperatures are recorded by the National Weather Service.
