UPDATE: YFD searches for cause of I-8 fires
Nearly a dozen small fires break out north of highway

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - We're learning more about a series of brush fire that broke out Tuesday afternoon along a short stretch of Interstate 8.
The Yuma Fire Department (YFD) now tells KYMA.com fire crews doused as many as 10 small fires between Avenue 3E and 16th Street. All were burning in the area just north of the westbound lanes of I-8.
The original fire crew called for backup, and firefighters managed to douse all the flames before they could damage surrounding properties.
Fire investigators still don't know how the fires broke out. YFD asks anyone who might have seen the ignite, or has information on this incident to call YFD Fire Investigator Bill Jones at (928) 373-4850.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Several fires broke out along Interstate 8 Tuesday afternoon.
The first reports came in around one in the area just east of the Pacific Avenue overpass. A number of other small first ignited along the westbound lane's shoulder between Pacific and Avenue 3E.
The Yuma Fire Department (YFD) contained the fires to a small stretch of highway. The Arizona Department of Public Service (DPS) reduced traffic to one lane while fire crews doused the flames.
Still no word on what sparked the fires. The investigation is ongoing.
The fires caused no major damage, or injury. Firefighters had the fire out, and DPS had traffic flowing freely by 3 p.m.
