Hundreds attend Walk-a-Mile-in-Their-Shoes

In honor of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week the Yuma County Victim’s Rights Committee hosted a special event “Walk-a-Mile-in-Their-Shoes” to raise awareness about crime victims.

The event took place at Carver Park. More than 5 million people are victims of crime in the United States, more than 400 of those victims are from Yuma, that’s according to National Crime Victimization Survey.

Russel McCloud, Yuma County District II Supervisor, was in attendance and says it’s events like these that help bring our community together.

“We want to stop domestic violence. It happens all to often,” says McCloud.

Amberly’s Place and Safe House of Yuma were in attendance showing support to victims in our community. Both organization help turn victims into survivors.

“These events mean a lot to all our victims and to our community,” says Program Director of Yuma’s Safe House Jodie Wight.
