Man hospitalized after bizarre traffic incident in Yuma

The Yuma Police Department continues to search for clues to the cause of a bizarre traffic incident.

It began with a traffic stop along Pacific Avenue around 1:45 Sunday morning. Yuma police were trying to pull over a 2014 Toyota pickup truck near Gila Ridge Road, when a man exited the truck from its passenger-side door.

Officers stopped to help the man. They later found the pickup in a basin in the 1700 block of Pacific. It was empty.

Paramedics took the 28-year-old man to Yuma Regional Medical Center. He was later flown to a Phoenix hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Police closed down Pacific Avenue for four hours while they investigated the incident, but they still don’t know what caused the man’s erratic behavior.

Officers urge anyone with information on this incident, or this individual to call the Yuma Police Department at (928) 373-4700, or you can remain anonymous by calling 78-CRIME.

Remember, if your tip leads to an arrest you could earn a reward of up to $1,000.
